On Monday night we attended Meet the Teacher Night where we were surprised to find out that her teacher was the one teacher (out of 5) that we knew nothing about. At first I was disappointed and a little nervous because I was hoping she'd get someone we were familiar with, but after meeting her and letting the news settle for a day, we got excited pretty quickly! Mrs. Kimball gave all the kids a poem and bag of confetti to use the night before the first day. It was a really sweet gesture and got G into bed! Smart teacher!
On the morning of the first day, I was braiding her hair and asked, "So how nervous are you for today?" She replied, "Not nervous. One hundred percent excited!" And that's pretty much how she stayed all day... even after pickup! By the time I got home from work, Ryan had already picked up Gracie and she was quick to show and tell all she'd experienced at school. They read The Kissing Hand and did an activity with it. She accidentally didn't raise her at all, instead she would say, "Mrs. Kimball! Mrs. Kimball! Mrs. Kimball" which she said was "annoying to teachers, so I'm gonna raise my hand more tomorrow!" Being a sympathetic teacher, I encouraged her to raise her hand... ugh... my kid is THAT kid! Just kidding! In Kindergarten, they're all THAT kid! We all got schooled in her classroom rules and using polite words like "excuse me instead of MOVE!" It was a pretty hilarious retelling of her day. She quite enjoyed PE and I got to be the PE teacher and tell her what exercises to do.
Everyone told me to be prepared that the first day will wear her out, but they were wrong. We tucked her in by 8:30 and she was still trying to fall asleep at 9:15. What a weirdo! I was ready for sleep by 7:30 last night! Gracie girl has energy to spare, that's for sure.
I was so glad she had a wonderful day! Dropping her off was simple and easy. I'd cried plenty the night before, so I was able to hold it together once the time to leave her came. She was cool as a cucumber and ready to take on the world. Daddy teared up seeing his big girl embark on this new journey, but ultimately we were both so proud to be parents to such an amazing girl!
