VBS T-Shirt Edit

Yesterday I took advantage of Hattie's afternoon nap by getting a little project ready for the upcoming week.  Vacation Bible School begins on Sunday and all the kids and adults have matching t-shirts to wear each day.  Rather than putting Hattie in a giant shirt (or not letting her wear one at all) I decided to re-fashion the shirt into a baby top.  I searched Pinterest and found several ideas, but I have limited time and very limited skills, so I landed on a simple, yet cute top.  

I also wanted to try a new way to attack sewing with knits because my past experiences with knits haven't been so favorable.  I read up on stretch/elastic thread and decided to give it a try this time around.  All in all, I would use stretch thread again, but only when sewing stuff for little ones.  Because you have to hand wind the bobbin and only fill it halfway, the process is rather tedious.  Additionally, I had to sew slowly in order to keep it from binding up.  But, I am happy that the shirt still has plenty of stretch and I don't have to worry about busting seams.  Below is a picture of my little helper (before I laid her down to get the sewing part done) and a before and after picture of the shirt.

Thrifty KU Shirt

With all the March Madness going on, I decided to make Gracie a new KU shirt. I made it big enough that she should be able to wear it next season, too.

It was super simple and cheap to make because I already had some Jayhawks fabric from another project. I bought a shirt from Walmart for around $3 and then sewed a heart of the Jayhawks fabric in the center. I used a thicker stitch on my machine to add some dimension (#26 on the Brother 6000i machine). I left a little more than an eighth of an inch outside the stitch so that I could cut slits in the fabric which would make it fray when washed, adding more character to the unfinished edge.

Here's the final product. Not bad for 10 minutes and $3!

Jammies

I took advantage of nap time yesterday by sewing a pair of pajamas for Gracie. I started them awhile back, but never finished them because my sewing machine wouldn't cooperate. For Christmas my loving husband bought me a new machine, and it works like a champ! I love it! So finishing the project took only 2 hours or so. Here she is modeling them. Kind of Plain Jane Jammies that actually look more like scrubs, but they are soft and comfy. Note to self, think twice before working with jersey fabric again. And definitely spring for elastic thread!

Gracie's First Easter

This weekend was a busy and fun weekend for our family!  Gracie turned 10 months old on Easter Sunday! Such a big day for such a big girl!  We woke up early for 8:00 church at King of Kings with my mom and sister's family.  The girls wore their matching Easter dresses (so cute! - see  below) and my mom played handbells... very beautifully, I might add.  

After church we went home for a nap and while Gracie was asleep, the Easter Bunny came to our house.  When she awoke, there were colorful eggs hidden throughout the living room.  Gracie wasn't so interested in all the colorful eggs.  Once she found one and the yummy goodness inside that one egg, she wasn't interested in anything else.  It was super cute though!  She just kept trying to pry the egg open with her chubby little fingers to get another treat out.  

After nap and egg-hunting, we went to my sister's for lunch and playing.  We played inside and outside and got a little time to relax together.  It was quiet and fun!

Gracie got an afternoon nap in at our house before heading to Ryan's grandma's to see Ryan's family.  We had a good time visiting with them and watching Gracie crawl around.  She's pulling up on things all the time now, but doesn't really try walking on her own just yet.  She'll take off before we know it, I'm sure!

After such a busy day, we headed home to play for a bit before bath time and bed.  It was a wonderful day, thoroughly exhausting for our family, but fun at the same time!

Easter Dress

Tomorrow my mom and I are working together to sew matching Easter Dresses for the girls. It's my first time sewing from a pattern. I'll be sure to post pics of the final product... if there is one. I'm kind of nervous!
