Yesterday was my 27 week doctor's appointment, but today begins week 28 - and the third trimester! Testing for gestational diabetes was the main purpose of the appointment yesterday, but I did meet with the doctor, too.
Everything looks good with the baby. The heartrate was still in the 150s and was very strong. The baby was pretty wiggly because I had just drank the sugar-drink for the glucose tolerance, but I got a good listen at its ticker anyhow! My belly was measuring 27 centimeters, right on schedule. My weight gain slowed a little this appointment, but unfortunately, I still gained 5 pounds. I expressed my concerns to the doctor and she didn't seem to think it was a big deal. That puts my grand total at 26 pounds. I'm getting nervous because I've really tried to eat healthy foods in the past 3 weeks and I still gained way more than I should've. Oh well... I'll just have to deal with the weight after the baby gets here, not much I can do now.
The doctor answered a few of my questions... the largest of which was 'How soon can we go camping?' She assured me that there's no reason we can't take the baby camping with us this summer. Ryan and I have 3 trips planned for July and August. Since our style of camping isn't really roughin' it much, I don't think it'll be a problem. I'm still going to check with the pediatrician once the baby is born, but the doctor said it shouldn't be a big deal as long as we're comfortable.
My assignment for the next few weeks is to sit quietly at the same time each day and track how long it takes the baby to move/kick 10 times. She said it would take about 1-2 hours to get to 10 kicks. I am supposed to do this at about the same time each day and keep track of the information. She said if I notice a drastic change in how long it takes (specifically if it's taking a long time) then I should call right away. She didn't really say why, but I have a feeling it's about making sure the umbilical cord isn't wrapped around the baby or pinched or something. I guess Little Weaver is an over-achiever... or maybe our baby just has ADHD, but last night it took 19 minutes to feel 10 kicks. I keep saying this baby is so active! Ryan has even been able to feel baby movements often... which is has been so fun for us! Actually, as I lay awake this morning from 6:30-6:40, I felt 16 kicks... probably why I was awake, instead of sleeping-in on my spring break!
Sorry there's no picture for 28 weeks just yet! I'll get that up very soon! I'm holding out for my new digital camera... Ryan and I are shopping for it later this week!

Hot Spots...
So I've been really careful for the past 10 days to keep my sink shiny. Ryan has even followed suit by loading his dishes into the dishwasher right away, even if he doesn't feel like it (which is never... for both of us). I have to give major credit to him because when we were headed to bed on Sunday night, I mentioned that I had to unload the dishwasher before going to bed, otherwise we wouldn't have anywhere to put our dirty dishes the next morning. As I went off to fold the freshly dried laundry, my loving husband unloaded the dishwasher for me... because he knows how badly I want to keep up with my new commitment. Now that's love!
So for the next step in this process of establishing new habits... new habits that will hopefully result in much less housework throughout the week because it becomes part of my 'getting ready for the day' or my 'getting ready for bed routine'. This is Day 6 on Fly Lady's Beginner Baby Steps. The task is to identify two Hot Spots in my house (areas where clutter gathers and grows). Then set the timer for 2 minutes to tidy those spots... I've decided on 2 minutes for each Hot Spot.
I've been giving some thought to my 2 Hot Spots. The first that comes to mind is our mail-center. It's a little black, 2-drawer organizer from Pottery Barn upon which many things end up... sunglasses, batteries, coupons, paperclips, mail that I don't know what to do with, etc. So that one was easy! The second Hot Spot has been more difficult to narrow down, but I think I'm going to focus my efforts on Papa Gerry's desk - a small wooden desk in our entry way that we inherited from Ryan's beloved Pseudo-Grandpa. This tends to catch anything that I drop on the way in the door or anything that we need to remember to take downstairs someday.
There were several other runners-up on the Hot Spot list. I figure once I get good at my first two, I will add another to the list. The ironing board in my closet that catches all the clothes I ended up not wanting to wear afterall, the end table in the living room, the shoerack downstairs by the door, or worst of all - Ryan's nightstand. While my darling husband is super supportive and helpful, his nightstand is the quintessential Hot Spot. I won't go into the dirty details here, but should my wonderful partner in life decide to create a little Hot Spot goal for himself, his nightstand might be a good place to start.
So my daily cleaning goals are:

25 weeks
Even though I'm 26 weeks pregnant now, I never posted about our 25 week appointment last Wednesday. Everything looks great at this point. Well, almost everything, but I'll get to that in a minute.
Little Weaver's heartrate was 140 bpm and I'm measuring right on schedule. It was 26 cm from my pelvic bone to the top of my uterus. Apparently some genius doctor figured out that after about 20 weeks of pregnancy, a woman should measure in centimeters how many weeks along she is, give or take 2 cm. Since I was 25 weeks, 26 cm was right on target. My blood pressure was good and Little Weaver was moving like crazy! It's pretty much been a circus in there for the past couple of weeks. It's pretty fun! I can even feel the baby move in multiple places now... I'll get kicked on the left side and then right away I'll feel a punch up near my belly button. I guess Little Weaver's gettin' strong enough to make his/her presence known.
Unfortunately for Papa Weaver, every time he puts his hand to my belly to feel movement, Little Weaver settles down. I joke and tell him that the baby is probably in there saying, "Shhh... be quiet. My dad's standing right there!"
Now for the bad news... I guess it's official that I'm 'Big Mama Weaver' because I gained 10 pounds in the past month! Oops! I probably ate one too many donuts... or maybe 10 to many donuts. I'm not sure why, but I have craved them for about 4 weeks now, and apparently they just add pounds faster than anything! The doctor was so nice about it though. He didn't get onto me, just said that I could try to walk 5 times per week for 30 minutes. I'm trying not to feel too bad about things, but I have gained 21 pounds already. This could get bad. But I will say, I've only had 1 donut since the appointment last week. I know I don't deserve a medal, but at least it's a step in the right direction. My biggest problem is that once I start thinking about something yummy (usually sweet, although not always) I can't stop thinking about it until I get it. It's bit of a problem!

Shiny sink!
I heard about a website (http://flylady.com/) from a friend in St. Louis on Tuesday. She explained that it's a free resource for decluttering and cleaning your home. Once you've decluttered, she has tons of tips and ideas for keeping it that way so that you're only spending 15 minutes each M-F (taking weekends off) and you never have to spring clean again. I figured I should give it a shot since I'm constantly trying to figure out a way to get housework done without spending hours and hours each weekend.
So the first step is to shine your sink. Odd, I know, but if you read her website, she explains why. I thought I'd blog about my journey to a new cleaning routine... which began today after work!

So the first step is to shine your sink. Odd, I know, but if you read her website, she explains why. I thought I'd blog about my journey to a new cleaning routine... which began today after work!
Here are the new rules for my kitchen sink:
- You may never leave dishes in the sink. Ever. Dishes should only be in the sink when you're cleaning them. If you must leave something in there, it has to be cleaned or loaded in the dishwasher before you go to bed.
- Wipe out the sink/faucet every time you're done working in the kitchen. This way you never have to 'shine' the sink again because there won't be water spots.
Before - I didn't think it looked that bad...
After - totally shiny!
I was thinking about trying to get a group of people together who wanted to attempt this declutter/cleaning journey with me. If you are interested, leave a comment or let me know. I'd love a buddy or two who want to help me stay on top of it!
